Prize fund for DFWC

Postby nLxajA » Oct 28th, '14, 9:02 pm

Prize fund for DFWC.
This question caused many doubts, so we decided to make a poll about it.
After lengthy discussions we decided to leave just 2 answer variants.

I discussed about alternative prizes (not money) with dqopb and we concluded that nothing but medals can be a trophy.
A T-shirt or a baseball cap is a too simple prize for a winner. It better suits for a participant prize. Such things are used as intended and are hard to store as a trophy.
This statement partially relates to gaming devices too. Mice and keyboards are senselessly to store as memory - they are just tools, consumables.
Also, different players prefer different brands/models, most players already have the devices they like. I know that many cyber sportsmen re-sell such prizes. Gaming devices are only appropriate when with a sponsor support, as an advertisement of the product. In addition, post expenses will reduce the sum to spend on such prizes. After all, there is certain risk of losing such prizes while sending them by post.

Therefore money prize seems the optimal variant to me.

Medals or cups are special cases. They shouldn't take money from the fund made of donations. If we decide to make such trophies, a little circle of admins/arrangers, or initiators of this idea can handle such an expense. According to preliminary estimations, it won't be expensive.
P.S.: Thanks to dqopb for translating :).
Clean Quake3 (1.32c) with installed defrag 1.91.25 & dfengine 1.08 + distributives windows/linux versions ioquake3, iodfengine, dfengine and defrag included ("xFiles" folder): cloud.mail.ru | yandex.disk.ru.
All defrag maps repack! <- very useful! Highly recommended!

Yup, but it's easier to dodge rain in a thunderstorm than make that t-shirt thing happen :P

Anyway, I'm voting for some kind of prize. I'm even gonna help with few bucks donation!

Arca's foreskin would be the best prize for the winner.

I would root for this.

But question is.. Will there be the will of funding it, if somebody realises, that he can't achieve top/awarded places?

Better buy myself that shirt and send it around the world.

How about.. winner gets a date with Nina(Valia)? Valia?

edit: Oh. I forgot. That we have democracy here. So as antihomophobic group, for other species will be available Arcaon and for asexuals great companion to any weather Crysis Warhead.

I have to think that there will be fairly strong interest in funding a prize pool from individuals who are not likely to gain from it. For my part, I signed up for the hell of it, but I would be tickled if I made it past the warm-up stage; and would love the opportunity to donate to a prize pool.

Also, look at the respectable prize pool that we had for the hangtime cup, and DFWC will havemuch more interest from the community. I think this could be a very nice incentive in the end...

+1 on everything you said, xaja. The shirt is the only non-monetary idea that sounds good, and is not feasible (at least for DFWC 2014).
